Miami Maintenance Management Council (MMMC) to provide support for a Focus Group meeting for the Aerospace Resource Center (ARC).

The Miami Maintenance Management Council (MMMC) is providing support for a Focus Group meeting for the Aerospace Resource Center (ARC). The ARC is working on a needs assessment of the aerospace industry in Florida. The intent of this effort is to address with industry professionals the immediate as well as emerging workforce training requirements from companies around the state. This particular focus group targets aviation-related industry in South Florida—to include the greater Miami-Dade and Ft. Lauderdale areas.

The Aerospace Resource Center is a joint venture of Florida Community College at Jacksonville and Brevard Community College in Cocoa that targets the continuing demand for skilled workers by Florida’s aerospace workforce. Its mission is to provide training, certification, and support for the expansion of Florida’s aviation and space industries. Besides crafting relevant curricula that address technological advances and changing workforce skills requirements, the Center engages in business incubation initiatives, skills identification and credentialing, industry pipeline development, and current as well as future economic development of the aerospace industry.

Goals of the ARC include:
  • Facilitating the development and delivery of industry-driven training with industry-level certifications.
  • Identifying core competencies common to all aerospace workers by establishing industry focus groups.
  • Develop partnerships that work towards the training and development of the aerospace workforce and promote the expansion of the aerospace industry.
  • Functioning as a point of contact for both training institutions and employers by maintaining and disseminating resources.
  • Modeling new industry developments using current aviation-space best practices.
  • Encouraging business incubation and promoting aerospace industry economic development.

When fully developed, the Employ Florida BANNER Center for Aerospace will focus on:
  • Creating new curricula relevant for training entry-level as well as advanced workers in high demand jobs.
  • Training of skilled workers—from entry level to advanced—including continuous skills upgrade training as required by targeted industries.
  • Delivering training in settings to include the campus, the workplace, and online.
  • Serving as a statewide resource for companies seeking assistance with identified training providers.
  • Training workers and providing expertise to other educational institutions that offer workforce programs.
  • Formalizing industry skills, standards, and workforce credentialing.

The South Florida aviation maintenance community is invited for their input.
