Starting October 1st, 2005, Runway 9-27 will be closed for 28 days. During the last 7 days of this closure, Runway 12-30 will also be closed to allow the contractor to work on the intersection of both runways. 75% of the project will be done during this 28 days. The rest of the work will only require nighttime closure of Runway 9/27.

The work consists of milling one inch of existing asphalt pavement from Runway 9-27 and overlaying the same with three inches of asphalt pavement, isolated areas of full depth pavement reconstruction, adjustment of existing lighting, upgrading runway guard lights (RGL), relocation of runway hold bars, restoration of existing pavement markings and pavement grooving. This project will rehabilitate and increase the remaining life of the existing pavement for Runway 9-27 at Miami International Airport.
