Airport presents Second Annual 2017 Non-Terminal Operator of the Year Awards

The Miami–Dade Aviation Department (MDAD) recognized Miami International Airport’s top cargo handlers and service providers on December 1 at MIA’s Second Annual 2017 Non-Terminal Operator of the Year Awards Ceremony.

Avianca Cargo was named the 2017 MIA Air Cargo Carrier of the Year; Worldwide Flight Services earned 2017 MIA Air Cargo Handler of the Year; AAR MRO Services received the 2017 MIA Aviation Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul (MRO) of the Year award; Pan Am International Flight Academy was named 2017 MIA Aviation Technical/Support Service Provider of the Year; and Silver Lining Inflight Catering won the 2017 Permittee of the Year award.

Contestants were judged by an independent panel of professionals that included representatives from Heico Aerospace and the International Air Transport Association. Each contestant was judged based on the use of technology/innovation; economic impact/job growth; awards/industry certifications received; and community involvement.

“Annual cargo shipments at MIA, in dollar value, represent 92 percent of Florida’s air trade and 40 percent of the State’s air and sea trade with the world – providing enormous economic impact not only for Miami-Dade County, but for our state and our nation,” said MDAD Chief of Staff Joseph Napoli, who oversees MIA cargo development. “Our cargo partners and service providers outside of the MIA passenger terminal are major contributors to that success and deserve to be recognized, which is why we are proud to honor this year’s Non-Terminal Operator of the Year award winners.”
